A published route, not a fixed box

Each tour below lists the places it covers and the themes it leans on. Nights, stops and activities are arranged around your travel dates and the pace you want, so no two trips run exactly alike. Tell us which length suits you and we will come back with a route and a quotation.

Why there are no prices here

A fair price depends on your travel dates, how many of you are travelling, the itinerary you choose, and the transport, accommodation and activities you want included. We quote each trip individually — the first itinerary discussion and quotation are free.

Tour one

7 days, 6 nights — culture, hill country and adventure

The route we are asked for most often. It takes in the cultural triangle, climbs into the tea country, drops down to the south coast and finishes in Colombo.

  1. 1

    Sigiriya

The rock fortress and the countryside around it — the usual starting point for the cultural part of the trip.

  2. 2

    Dambulla

The cave temple complex, a short drive from Sigiriya.

  3. 3

    Kandy

The hill capital, its lake and its temple — and the gateway to the climb up into tea country.

  4. 4

    Nuwara Eliya tea country

Cool air, tea estates and plantation scenery at the heart of the highlands.

  5. 5

    Ella

Viewpoints, waterfalls and walking trails, plus the scenic train line that runs through the hills.

  6. 6

    Galle

The walled fort on the southern coast, and the beaches either side of it.

  7. 7

    Colombo

The city, and the end of the loop — convenient for the airport.

Tour two

10 days, 9 nights — culture, beaches, hills and wildlife

The middle length, for travellers who want all four sides of the island rather than a choice between them. Three extra days over the seven-day tour buy an unhurried pace, a national park and real time at the coast.

  • Culture
  • Beaches
  • Hill country
  • Wildlife

We write this route around you

Rather than publish one fixed ten-day sequence, we build it from your dates and interests — which park, how long at the coast, how much time in the hills. Message us and we will send a day-by-day route for your trip, with a quotation.

  • Cultural and historical sightseeing in the ancient cities
  • A wildlife safari with time for an early start
  • Tea country, the scenic train and the hills around Ella
  • Days on the southern or eastern coast
  • Travel between all of it in a private vehicle with your driver-guide

Tour three

14 days, 13 nights — heritage, nature, beaches and adventure

Two weeks is enough to go round the island properly: the ancient cities, the north-east coast, the highlands and the south, without long days in the vehicle.

  1. 1

    Sigiriya

The rock fortress and the surrounding countryside.

  2. 2

    Trincomalee

The north-east coast, its bays and its harbour town.

  3. 3

    Polonnaruwa

The ruined royal city, best seen slowly.

  4. 4

    Kandy

The hill capital, before the road climbs into the tea country.

  5. 5

    Nuwara Eliya

    Tea estates and highland scenery.

  6. 6

    Ella

Walks, waterfalls, viewpoints and the scenic train line.

  7. 7

    Mirissa

The southern coast, and the quietest part of the fortnight.

  8. 8

    Galle

The fort, its ramparts and the streets inside the walls.

  9. 9

    Colombo

The city, and the end of the loop.
